Make another steel plate—a sturdy one, thick enough not to bend, and a good sealing gasket for it. Put one of the
electric choke kits on top of it. Problem permanently solved, and a choke that works better than the factory setup.
The choke cups that one finds available any more for the '70-'72 cars are almost always V8 cups, not the same as the Slant-6 cups.
