Depends on so many things.
car weight 2500 or 4100 pound?
what is the trans ratios?
Overdrive?
Tunnelram or dual plane intake.
Power band of the engine? A 426 hemi needs more gear than that to drag race.
Drive to the track 10 minutes or 75 minutes?

I drove to track with 3.91 and it would have work with 3.73 gears, it needed 4.10
