Does anyone know how to determine the date of manufacture of a car if the fender tag, door tag and engine are gone? The car is a '71 Demon. I looked at all the glass date codes and they say 1969 & 1970, but I was trying to find a more precise date of manufacture.

I don't see any way to make that determination.

The fender tag and a build sheet would be the only place that info would be.

You can look through the parts books for mid year changes to parts

In 67 they used 2 wiper motors and there is a date associated with the change over.

The brake lenses should have a date on them but it might be model year vs calenders year.

With that much missing did it come with a title?

That's kind of what I was doing with the wheels to this car. They are semi-glos black and not body colored. If I remember, The factory change from body color to black rims was the beginning of May 1971, so was thinking it may have been manufactured after May 1971.

I guess looking at a bunch of manufacture date codes on various parts may give a rough estimate of when the car was made, unless someone has a more precise resolution.

If you want to post a VIN there are several people who have a database of fender tags and may come close...

So you mean that someone who has a database can look at the consecutive numbering of the vin and determine an approximate date of manufacture, based on when the other consecutivly numbered cars were made? That makes sense..

Yes, I know some don't want to reveal their VIN number, but if you are looking for info sometimes you have to...

Ya, sounds good. The car is is another location, so the vin will get posted as soon as I can get to the car...

You can check the stamping on the radiator support. There you have plant, date and S.O. number.

There's a stamping on my trunk rail that not only gives my partial vin but the date the body was stamped out at the Outer Drive facility. Mine is OD 30 1 which coincides with the build date of 2 26 69. Your results may vary.

Sometimes there is a kmember date stamping. Very faint. And you have to assume it’s original to car.

Can you be more specific of that location? I looked on the trunk rail and didn't see anything.

With the vin you should be able to get really close to scheduled build date, from someone else who's has fender tag etc from their car

Well it may not be there for that model year. Chrysler was consistent with being inconsistent. I think some later model A bodies (Darts, Demons, Dusters) had stampings on the package tray framework.

Oh yes, there were stamps on the package tray but they made no sense so I disregarded them. Maybe that was the build date. Thanks.

If it's there it will be under the seal. You MIGHT be able to see the reverse stamping on the underside from inside the trunk.

It will be about 12 inches forward of the turn down

I did find this number stamped on the rear package shelf near the drivers side speaker hole, but they don't match the vin or anything. It looks like 6453552. Maybe it's just a part number of the shelf.

As noted above, at least for Hamtramck Dusters, Demons and Dart Sports, I've always seen the secondary body VIN on the package tray. This is on a 72 Demon. B - Hamtramck, 2 - 1972, xxxxxx - last six digits of VIN.

Notice the factory booger welds on this side . The other side looks perfect.
