1bbl carb takes a 2-1/8" diameter air cleaner base hole
2bbl carb takes a 2-5/8" diameter air cleaner base hole

Your mod is clever, but that sharp edge won't seal well, so dirt will get in even before the sharp edge slices through the air cleaner/carb gasket.
