My son Chris got his deer yesterday. About 110 lb doe, but he was happy with it. He was only able to hunt Saturdays and Thanksgiving this year, and it had rained every chance he had to go out, except yesterday.

He called me Friday night, and asked where he should go. I told him I'd go to my stand if it was me, and if he wanted, I'd go with him.

My stand is the 1st place he ever hunted, and we went there until he was old enough to go on his own. That's where he saw his 1st buck, and had his first case of buck fever. He shook so bad that he couldn't lift the gun, or even turn his head.

It was a cold breezy morning, with everything iced up, and spitting snow. The deer usually come through around the same time, and sure enough, they didn't disappoint. I heard the ice break from the 1st deer, then more ice breaking, from the deer that followed. I told Chris where to watch for them to come out of the swamp, and to wait to see if there were any bucks. No bucks were with them, so he watched my shooting lanes, and took one of the does. He made a nice 50yd shot with his 7mm rem mag, double lung and liver.

Sitting in the stand yesterday, brought back many memories of past seasons. I enjoy hunting and fishing, but when all's said and done, I guess it is about the memories. Guess I'm showing my age. Tim

Well we have some deer slyer's here, 1973Swinger has tagged out.
Know we are seeing some great hunting days on this thread.:notworth:

Good for you Tim and thanks for a great experience you shared with us.
Nice looking doe. She should fill some hungry folks up.:thumblef:

bOb shingler!! Two does in one day. What do they use down there in Fla this time of year to make a kill.?.:book:

Well Mike, I went out Saturday morning and about 2 miles from home spotted a bull moose with a very nice rack on him at about 300 yards. At about the same time I spotted a blue Dodge stretch cab driving across in front of me directly toward the moose. $h*t-head saw me there and didn't even stop, just kept driving straight toward the moose until the big fella decided to make a run into the bush. I was so P.O.'d I said to hell with it and went back home.
I went back out about 3:00 that afternoon and bagged a very nice 4-point (per side) mule buck about a mile East of my house. Got the digital out to take a couple of pics for you folks, and got the "memory card full" message. DOOH!! I'd downloaded the pics that morning and forgot to delete them from the camera!! How's that for a computer tech with old-timer's disease? :)

Glad to hear you did not shoot a tire out.:toothy7:
What in the world was they thinking.:angry3: "They did not want this bull killed"
Some people need super vision.
Glad to hear you got a nice 8 pointer That should get some in the freezer.
It felt good to get out there did'nt it.
Couldn't you delete pictures and then fill them up with some mule burger shots.
Glad you got them spider's out of the barrel sir.:thumblef:

We (4 of us) killed eight does last weekend in Georgia (maybe 15 hours on stand, max) The place is eat up with deer, private timberland, they're like squirrels. Two of the does were 130-140 lbs. We don't kill the monsters like you guys up north (even though we still see 150-160's regularly, score that is) In Florida, archery starts in Sep, then blackpowder, then gun - right through Feb in some zones - you can hunt deer nearly six months (pop up to South Carolina and gun hunt in August (in velvet) I love the South!

Md DNR people say the hunting numbers are not as good as 2006 with half the season over. Only 8,375 deer killed in bow and early muzzle-loader season. Thats a 12% decrease from 2006. There's so damn many deer here that you don't even have to check them in. DNR would "like" you to call a toll free number and tell them how many you killed or you can do it online. Their worse than rabbits.

Mike - I was laughing so hard at myself I just loaded the meat in the Jeep and went home. :)
Jack - Yeah, there's some good meat there, but being an old down-homer I still prefer my moose meat. :)

Yeah, my best bud shot me a small white tail doe. I wanted something nice and young with lean meat. I've had a couple steaks from it so far, and they were so tender..w00t! He's got one more tag to shoot for me, but I don't know if he's going to get it or not.

Any of you ever come to Alberta to hunt? We've got some really large animals up here.

Yesterday was the first day of rifle season for white-tails in PA...poured rain all day long, the only thing I saw was a small black bear in the morning and a pheasant in the evening...today was different though, by 8 my son had seen a six point and couldn't get a shot and I had an eight on the ground. We stuck around and at 10:55 scored on two mature does. Then drug for two hours to the truck.

Hay GTGrinly!! Carry a blow gun with you and get the pheasant too.:thumblef:
I have knot seen one in years !! but I can still remember that great tasting bird.:drinkers:
The next day sure was good to you and your son, Congrads :thumblef:

Heck Sid !! You know there ain't nothing to it.. Good for you bud.:thumblef:

I went hunting Thanksgiving day, had a really good time, for the first time in 3 years. I got 3 Pheasants all males and 1 rabbit my dad got 1 Pheasant male. I was pretty upset with my shooting though, because my finger kept slipping off the safety when I was trying to take it off safety. Because of that 1st bird we flushed was right there for me and I couldn't even take a shot, the 3rd I got again forgot to take safety off and it took 2 shots to take it down, thankfully have full choke on 2nd barrel. I always use my Dads Charles Daly over/under old school edition.

Pa. buck ..... Got this Yesterday at 4:30 out of my kids stand while he was at work....man, I love being retired !!!:toothy7:
