340 hi po exhaust manifolds
I emailed Josh about the 340 manifolds. I particulary wanted to know if he was able to get 2 1/2" pipe up to the manifolds. Here's part of his reply........
I had a local shop do the exhaust but unfortunately never got to see it on the
lift while fresh - he was closing when I picked it up. It's 2 1/4" off the
headpipes to get through the steering and manual transmission linkage, then
opens to 2.5" right before going into an X pipe and Magnaflows. There's
another 2 1/4" section somewhere maybe to clear the gas tank (64-66 B-Cuda gas tank is asymetrical - it expects a single fat resonator not duals). Little downturns at the end like a B-Body Hemi car. Sounds amazing with the Magnaflows but I was setting off car alarms so switched to big factory-style muffs and it still sounds nice and throaty none of that Flowmaster hiss. It's nothing fancy like mandrel-bent or anything, just regular bends in it but I think they actually help with clearance and fit. It is really tight up front if you have a V8 in there esp if you have mechanical linkage and use a modern bellhousing or have any funky parts (tweaked or wrong size motor mounts and/or steering setup). You WILL have clearance issues with those manifolds and your steering. I switched to a non-factory steering linkage from flaming river to gain a bit of clearance, and had to sort of **** the steering column to one side slightly. You'll know what I mean once you get into it - that real tight spot where the left manifold wraps around the steering shaft. I also get tons of heat in my lap on long drives and I think much of that is due to heating up the steering shaft and it turning into a little radiator. If it's an automatic it might be easier on you. I almost considered a stock single exhaust setup with a Y-pipe.
