Hey I was wondering if anyone has info on the tank sending units that would be found in a 67 Cuda. My gauge provides no reading. I have tested my gauge and it works..and I have tested the wires and they flow proper curent..so Im assuming the problem is in the sending unit. Out of all the experiance my family has with wrenching on cars its for some reason still a mystery..how many wires should be coming off the sending unit? One or two? I have little experiance in this area as of yet. Anyhelp would be appreciated! Thanks!

should be just one wire from the sending unit to the gauge. try grounding that wire and the gauge should read full. dont ground it for more than a few seconds or you will burn up the gage. check to make sure the ground strap fron the sending unit to the frame is good or the gage wont work. hope this helps

Ah-ha...I dont see any ground strap on the sending unit. I figured a peice of the puzzle was missing. Know where I can find a good diagram to tell me where the strap should be?

The grounding strap connects at the tank, around the short 5/16" rubber flex hose to the fuel pickup on one end and the fuel line to the pump on the other end. Year one sells a replacement that looks like a 1/4" strap with prongs on each end. When I did mine, The fuel sending unit was corroded into the fixed position and could not move. Had to remove the tank & cook it out and refurbish the whole tank & sending unit. Good luck.

I'm glad you got some help. By the way that is a great looking Barracuda you have there. Wow, if mine looked half that good, and your only 17 geesh.

Actually most cars don't have those ground straps on them anymore and the gauge still works. It should ground through the sending unit lock ring, to the tank to the tank straps and then the to the body just fine. Most likely if you ground that wire and then turn the key on the gauge should peg as sweatybetty said. If that's the case you need a new sending unit. A unit from any 67-76 A body should work.

If you can't find the factory clip to connect the sending unit to the fuel line just clean the two ends and use a pair of 1/4" hose clamps with a short lenght of 16 gauge wire. While it may ground through the tank and straps in some cases, it's obviously not happening on your car. Like posted before, momentarily ground the sending unit wire with someone watching the gauge for movement. If it moves it's a signal issue. If you add the ground and still not movement, replace the sending unit. If nothing happens then you going to pop out the dash cluster and check for continuity from the sending unit to the gauge. If you find not breaks in the wire ( using an OHM meter...) then it's the gauge. Simple circut to fix, but a pain in the *** if your not mentally prepared for the challenge. This might help too:
