Gentlemen, Start you engines

So it boils down to getting eather a 904 for a V-8 or a 727. I still like tha idea of having the stronger of the two trans but it doesnt seem as though everybody agrees on which one that is. Somebody told me that some of the 727s have 4 gear planetaries like the 904s. Claimed they were used in old RVs and such. Is there any truth to that? If so, how do you identify between tha two without tearing it down?
Need to ask yall about engine heads. I have been told that the pre-magnum high swirl heads with 1.90 /165 valves are the way to go on a 360/408 stroker. That didnt make a lot of since to me. Why not go with the bigger mag ports and 2.02 valves? The reason I was given was that the pre-mag heads actually flow and mix air/fuel better. Was also told to use GM valves because they lighter due to having slightly smaller stems. Needless to say, I'm open to yalls views on this.
Found a doner 85 thuck with a 360 / auto. Ole boy claimed it ran but smoked a little. He parked it beings it wouldnt pass emissions a couple of years ago. Also claimed the tranny was rebuilt about a year or so prior to parking it. He didnt seem too happy about having tha tranny rebuilt and then only being able to drive it for another year or so. Said he just wanted it out of the way and I could have it for $500 bucks. I figure just tha tranny is worth that. Now ....... what tranny will that ole 85 truck have???

More later.
