Largest Rim Tire Combo for 68 Cuda

I asked Stockton Wheel what was the largest wheel/tire package I could get under the fenders of my 72 Demon. With Rallye or cop car wheels (7 inches wide, 4¼ backspace), they said 235/60-15. Since I already had a pair of 255/60s mounted, I checked and found that they were very close to the rear spring and they would rub in multiple places in front when turning with front end approaching lower travel limits. I bought 235/60 T/As and have had no problems. Someone told me that different axles have different lengths, so I think the advice to trial fit is a good. Since my purchase I've seen a device at a Discount Tires shop that can bolt on the hub and check clearance without having to mount a tire. Wish I had seen it earlier.
