Hughes Performance Converters, Any one run them? or Have any experience with them?
I believe they fall into the poor mans converter category. Just like the PTC I bought. Converters like this are not very efficient. I figured converter slip on mine at 12%. With 27.1" tires and 4:10 gears my engine should be turning 3050 rpm but it spins 3425 rpm. That's nearly 400 rpm more. A good converter like a Dynamic, ATI, Turbo Action and a few others will be more in the line of 4-5% slippage.
Not only does mine slip going down the road but I'm sure with a good converter with the same stall speed and same diameter would run a higher trap speed.
In a word the Hughes will give you a performance gain over a stock converter but there is much better out there.
Oh yeah. If you do go with one make sure and run a deep trans. pan and a cooler or you'll fry your tranny.
