does anyone know if the bearing retainer adapter ring from the small size to the big size goes on the inside of the bell or outside? I am waiting for it in the mail, but I don't want to put the bell housing on if I have to take it back off to put the adater ring back on.

I haven't seen an adapter ring like that for a long time but I'm almost positive that it goes on from the backside of the bellhousing. You could wait until right before you install the trans to put the ring on.
