318 build. what would you do?

My obsession with 318's goes back to my first car. 1974 Duster 318/904/7.25 Red, white vinyl half top, black bucket/console interior that was prestine....I purchased the car for $1500.00 as pictured here:

I drove the snot out of it, popped both headgaskets and hydrolocked it. I put a set of 360 heads on it straight from a 90' Dodge 150 4x4, and drove the pee out of it some more....it was nearly bulletproof.

To me 318's are pretty simple and you know what your getting into.

I know they do not make torque like a 383, but if someone can really tune a engine/car, a 318 prepped Mopar has the potential to make some people wake up and then realize what just happened.

*I later had that Duster completely in Grey Primer getting ready to go back to factory colors and I lost my job and got into a hardspot and sold the car to some stranger for $2000 on the spot.....:pale:

Sure do miss that car.

I say build whatever engine you decide. I just wanted to comment on 318's.
They are so plentiful at junkyards, anyone can try their hand at engine building, mulitple times and not cost as much as 408/416, 451/499 strokers and still have alot of fun.

Good luck on your expedition.

Yes,but performance wise they WON'T touch a 416!!!! unless you put twice the money into it, theres a reason i yanked the lowly 318 out of my duster,i wanted to go REAL fast...and be able to laugh at big blocks..which i do!!
