I do not know what the torque rating is for the A230 but I believe it came out in the early 70's after the bottom fell out of the horse power wars so I would expect to be pretty light duty.

The A833 came behind everything from \6's to 426 Race Hemi's from the factory. GM even used it in pick-ups for awhile. The 440 & Hemi versions had an 18 spline input shaft all other used the standard 23 spline input shaft. The 18 spline units are refered to as the hemi 4spds and are quite rare.

The A833OD version that came in cars had an alumium case which didn't stand up to a lot of torque unless the counter shaft holes in the case were bushed with steel then it was just as stout. A833OD that came in pick-ups and vans were iron.
