4 door to 2 door

-
you could shave the rear door handles off and fill in the holes but add in the remote trunk locks on the doors and make the back doors pop open at the touch of a button.

I made my 69 a two door, it was a four door that was in real nice shape, and after I initially sold it years ago, I vowed to buy a 2 door if I ever saw one.
Years went by and my old four door threw a rod and the guy who bought it from me took it to the junkyard, as he was through with it.
The title was still in my name and I eventually got it back, I couldnt take seeing such a fun car getting the crap kicked out of it in that junkyard. I got it out of there before a car was set on its roof.
I found a really bad, rusted out two door. I got to looking and the windows and roof looked the same as the four door I had. Sure enough, they were. Going down the assembly line, this car had no idea if it was going to be a 2 door or a 4 door till the 1/4's were installed, and the door post, it was all the same.
So I cut the post out of the car with no title, and it was badly rusted, and went to town on it. It was really easy. Grind out the old post, and weld in the new post ten inches back, bolt the door on, weld up the door seam in the back, and I was done, it was really easy.

Here is the car I cut the posts out of and got the doors from.

Ill have to keep an eye on this thread. Some day id like to take a beat up dart wagon and turn it into a australian ute. It would be very involved like this 4 to 2 door.

That thought has crossed my mind since I have a 65 Dart wagon. I've also thought about cutting and moving the center post and adding the spare 65 Dart GT doors to make it a 2 door wagon. The GT doors would sure make entry/exit a lot easier.

Thanks Sid, but the link wouldn't let me in to the site. I think I may have to register. I'll try it later at home.

Ah, you're right. I'm also a member at Chevytalk, and I accessed it from there, so you may have set up an account to access it. If you have any further problems, let me know and I'll let you use my account to access the site.

check out my waggin, easy four door to two door conversion on early a bodies,if in doubt make a template of the window opening and try it on the donor car or visa versa.unbolt some of the interior or exterior trim and try it for size.in the case of my waggin I have to do some body work to the roof to use the top trim from the 66 dart gt on the 65 valiant wagon x-four door but I just like adding some chrome to the old gal.I have many a body cars to play with so Im lookin to do a scamp wagon next but I gotta find a roof and side windows suitable for the job.

Good looking project waggin. What is the donor door from?

What I was thinking was to get donor doors from a 2 door Dart. Mount them on the hinges and then move the post back to the proper location for the new door. Then use the back door from the 4 door car to make a solid panel that would become part of the quarter panel. That way I would kind of get the best of both worlds by have a larger door for me to get in and out of and also get the ridgidness of a post car for any extra HP I might want to throw under the hood.

Maybe I wont be so fast to part out my 66 coronet 4 door If i sectioned out the back doors it would be shorter than a 2 door and an altered wheelbase would be awesome.

Why not just buy the 4 door cheap, keep it looking stock, and drop a 440 in it?

nothing wrong with a 4 door, here is mine-

66 dart gt door and front part of quarter panel, use the window channel and the wheather stripping also.and new glass for the rear windows, need ed clearance for the windows to roll allllllllllll the way down.it's a done deal, ready for finish and paint, probably in the next week or so,just installed the engine in valerie and the :"WAGGIN " tonight

that 3 door car had me very puzzeld their for a min

my dad worked for Chrysler and said they made these cars to have both 2 and 4 door for part fit and photo shoots. Seemd like to me it would have been easier to build one of each

I've never seen one but dad said more than once that they made them

Doing the 4dr to 2 door conversion is pretty easy on a late 60s Dart. You would do it just like the red 62. The roof line is the same. All you need is the 2 doors and do a little sheetmetal work.
Compare the side views of a 68 2dr post and a 4 door. Very doable.

Nope, the Demon stays the way it is. This is just one of those crazy idea's that pops into my mind all to often. My head is full of them. I won't be starting anything for another 2 years, but I plan way ahead and have a total plan before I even start.
