Mopar Perf. 380 Horse crate motor
Mighty Demon 750 CFM carb.
Hooker Super Comp 1-3/4" headers

904 trans / low first gear/Full manual valvebody/9.5" converter (about 4000 stall)
8-3/4-4.30 gears
Hoosier QTP 28X13-15

I think this would be an easy high 11 second combo (maybe mid 11s?)

My car is pretty light. No heater, no radio and will be loosing the rear seat as well but its all steel (and bondo)

Sounds plenty quick to me Adam. You may even keep the gears in the back end with that 904.

I like it all but the Crate motor and the Demon.

Build your own and go BIGS

Find a 340 block, steel crank!! then wind the sh&t out of it!

The crate motor isn't a bad motor, but a couple of things....

1)the cam in it, is too mild for a mighty demon, and it's a little small for the 750(at least in a demon since it's wet flowwed)

A 650 speed demon would be a better choice on that motor.

2)it's 75-100 horse shy of an 11.99

Assuming the car will weigh 3400 with you in it, you will need 390 at the WHEELS, so 380 crank hp isn't going to cut it.

380 crankhp in a 3400 pound car should yield a high 12, in optimum conditions.
A friend of mine has a dart with a 340 that hasn't seen a 12 yet, with hp dyno'd around 380(or a bit better). His car does have full interior, ect, and his converter isn't matched to the application very well.

Dave I have seen these motors box stock in the high 11s in a well set up car. They make closer to 410 horse then the 380. I have also seen the 300 hores version in the high 12s in 68 Dart. This was a street car with full interior, 2.25" exhaust and small 235-60-15 drag radials. Im sure it takes a ton of tunning to reach thiose numbers though.

Also the cam specs are

288/292 advertised duration
245/248 @.050"
.501"/.513" lift.

not sure what the LSA is though.

What do u guys think the motor will do with a cam swap when u get it and some head work done?or do the heads hav work done already?

I didn't realize the cam was quite that big in that.

A mighty demon is the right choice at that rate.

I still think 11's is a little much for it.

Certainly the stall and gears are a big boost.

I saw a demon in mopar muscle with one of these that ran high 12's with 410's

You'll find out 100% if you put it together 8)

I dont really think a cam swap would do anything for it. Its got a good size stick in it. As for the heads they are just stock Magnum heads (same thing as on your ram)

You could do some work to them but IO think if you really wanted to make this thing fly a set of Magnum R/T heads would be the way to go.

Dave I really think Im gonna have to go this route just to prove to you high 11s are doable with an out of the box crate

Do you still feel the 650 Demon is enough for it ?

yeah its killing me

Still got to finish the suspension first. Disk brakes, Frame connectors and 8 point bar. Then the fun stuff. :D

Prove me wrong man, :D

I'm definately not some all knowing mopar guru....far from it.

As for the 650? On paper it's the right one. Ask cuda66273 for a guru's opinion. I'll stand by what I said as it being a better choice for a 380 crate motor, than the 750. Of course, you have to use the 750 to prove me wrong.

If you were closer I'd lend you mine for a weekend(750 mighty)...LOL

This board is pretty good for knowledgable people.

All I know, is on a lot of boards this is what constitutes a 12 second car:

-An A body
-360, maybe even a 318
-stock converter
-a thermo quad or an eddy
-a weiand action plus intake
-a comp XE series cam
-headers-
-a good set of tires

The rest stock...
You know what I mean man???
The internet has made anything slower than a 12, a POS.
Yet at the track things don't seem that way.
Big block B bodies turned 15's from the factory.

My old short box had some healthy mods, and would kill most street cars. Best et 14.9

Maybe I'm just a pesimist...LOL

Send me picture of it when it's ready to go 8)

you'll have to have the perfect tune to run 11's with that combo. I'm not saying it can be done but I had a full roller 340 with all the toy's and 3 year's of tuning and didn't run 11's till the 3rd year. The car wanted to run 11.9's but if I did everything right it went 11.80's.

As far as a carb a 650 something should work. Maybe 750 if your light enough and have enough gear. The problem is that crate ain't gonna like 7000 grand which is what it will need to turn if you want 11.'s

Not to hijack your thread Fastbackcuda, but I had the same question and one more I would like to ask. I have basically the same car, but without a rollcage. I would love to have it in the 11sec range but it still a street/stip car so I cannot have the huge convertor/gears. I have a 360 built same cam 292/508, 9.8comp, 3000 tc, TF727, and 4.10 gears. My engine builder has estimated around 425hp+ and about the same torque. I do not have a baseline yet, but how streetable and how much more would it help if I had 4.30's and what is your recommendations for the stall in the convertor. I plan to call dynamic for there recomendations for convertor. I hope to have the car running 11sec all engine someday. I completely idolize Barracuda340s car looks awesome and runs low 11's. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Hello, I would reccommend a 4000 stall and go with 4.30's if you have a 28" slick and your motor will turn 6600 to 6800 rpm's depending on convertor slippage. To run 11's you will need somewhere around 112 to 114 mph and a decent 60 ft. You will run out of gear if you are running 26" tires and 4.30's.

i agree with brett......but ive learned a BIG lesson about cams!!!..if you want to rev over 6500,go SOLID!!!!.
i finally went thru the gears last night on RT 84E AND MY LITE CAME ON AT 6300 AND BY THE TIME I SHIFTED IT WAS 6500 AND IT STARTED TO FLOAT THE VALVES.
so,if you want high rpm's..go solid!!!!

ive got a race lined up thursday night with a friend of mine who as a 70 chevelle with a 468 that goes 11.70's with his 30x9 tires and goes 11.20's with his 28x10's
he's leaving the 30's on it to try me out to see how im running but boy that sucker FLEW last night and those new valve springs WOKE IT UP!!!!
