Wrinkle Finish Prep

My buddy used to build rifles, he painted quite a few with wrinkle paint. He said the trick to get a good wrinkle was to preheat the stock. He had a bbq rotisserie set up to hold the stock in front of a heater. Then wrinkle painted and kept in front of the heater. I dont know if you need to prime for metal or not.
