This post inspired me to clean the junk off the hood and at least set the scoop on the car this morning.
The rear aluminum Cragar DragStars (same as Weld ProStars) are 15 x 10-inch. They have a 4.5" backspace. The tires are 295/50R-15s. They look AWESOME, however with the rear lowered any more they would rub on the outer lip. I am debating rolling my wheel lips, however I am not sure they would still tuck up inside without rubbing. I do not want to cut up an original rust free car just yet, especially when I have so many other projects that I can cut up if I want to.
Clearence to the stock frame rail & factory hangers and such.
I decided to go another route for now. To give me a little more room I got a set of offset shackles, and decided to go with a wheel with a 5" backspace so I can hopefully clear a 15 x 10-inch wheel and 295/50R-15 tire combo with the car lowered down a bit more. I found a great deal on a set of aluminum American Racing: Vector (yes the Dukes wheels I know...). They had the 5"backspace I was looking for to move the wheel in a bit, however they are only availible in 8.5" wide in the rear. This will knock me down to a 275/60R-15rear tires for now, however I will not have to roll my lips for the time being. This will leave with time to think about it. 295/50R-15s will go onto an 8.5" wheel, however I think the 275/60R-15s will 'fit' the 8.5" wheel more correctly.
