Hey guys has anyone invested in a stud welder? I'm doing my first resto, and was wondering how they worked. I don't want to buy if they are crap. I stripped my 68 dart down thinking I need two new quarters, but I think i can get away with just replacing the lower quarters around the wheel opening. Thing is there is a couple big dents in the quarter by the side marker light. any help would be great. Thanks.

I bought one from Eastwood a couple of years ago.It works great.Just make sure you read the instructions before you use it. Jim

Good question.... I would like to know about these also..... How about the cheap spot welders at like Harbor Freight ???? Has anyone used one of those.....

I didn't buy one but borrowed a Harbor Freight cheapie from a friend. I thought it worked great!!! It was fairly easy -- especially for someone who doesn't regularly do body work -- and the results were pretty dang nice. Used it on the 440 shop truck's dents down underneath the door where you can't get behind the panel easily, and a couple smaller dents on the fenders. I was impressed! Buddy said he paid $135 for it on sale.

They are great, you can add studs for trim, pull dents, there is an attachment that you can use to shrink metal.and if your not using it everyday the cheaper ones work just fine.

I have the Harbor freight one and its works awesome- the only thing I don't like is the cheap slide hammer that comes with it

My dad got one of the Harbor Freight ones a few years ago and it works great. Your right about the cheap slide hammer that comes with it.

Instead of the slide hammer. You can get a dent puller that attaches to the stud and slowly pulls the dent out really nice. Its really just a pop rivet gun with a thing on the end to keep it away from the meatal surface. You put it on the pin like you would a rivet and slowly pull the handle. You can actually control how far you pull the dented metal out.I love it works like a charm. It is for dings amd small dents.I haven't used it on a real big dent yet. I did use it on a crease worked pretty good for that also.I also got it from Eastwood.$30.00 if I remember right.

You guys are all on the right track. I have sold the Uni-spotters and a few Spitznagel units. Every body shop has and uses one. You can even shrink hail dents with one. The studs should be universal size and can be reused. They are a very simple tool and a cheaper one should work great for occasional use. toolmanmike
