I had a similar problem with mine. Wouldn't go over 4500. Felt and sounded like I had 4500 rpm chips in it.
Ended up being a wiring problem to the MSD box. Rewired it with heavier wire, soldiered and shrink tubed everthing. Now she'll go as high as I want
