Hey:

I'm not really happy about my options for adding a shifter to my bench seat car (though I'd appreciate any ideas), but was wondering if anyone had tips for sticking with the column shifter with a performance transmission.

Thanks!

Steve

I ran one its not bad, it was reverse manual valve body just don't let the wife drive it. She'll be on the freeway in first gear otherwise known is "D" for Drive

Mosher does this with his A990-style cars. They print up reversed patterns for the column indicator. His cars make gobs of horsepower too. He even puts a line-lock switch on the lever if the customer specifies it. When the modification is done, you just push the selector lever down instead of pulling up to shift.

IMO, it doesn't really matter how the trans is shifted, it's all just linkage or levers in the end. A column shifter is really just a longer, more involved version of a floor shifter. You just need a way to actuate the shifts, which of course can be accomplished with a column shift linkage.

I've seen conversions with a reverse valve body so the column indicator reads prn12d .Seen this a bit on "sleeper" cars .Otherwise I think It's fairly difficult to accurately shift on a column with a standard manual valve body.
Far too easy to overshoot 3rd(D) Ask Me how I know I know !

I wonder how they get a detent in 2nd? Or maybe they don't?

P-R-N-1-2-D is not a the pattern for a reverse shift manual VB, P-R-N-1-2-3 is the correct pattern IMO.

a Manual VB doesnt offer Drive

I have a turbo action full reverse manual in my column shifted 904,i love it especially when people look in the car and basically think its stock ha ha ha...

I also ran a revese manual valve body with the colum shift in my cuda for several years. It always seemed to catch people off guard.

did it back in 1974 or so when I had no $ an like it so much that I still use it . I did have a trans that shifted so hard it would jump to the next higher gear . the 1st to 2nd shift was way to hard it would jump to neutral with to rev pattern after that . as a mater of fact still using same valve body from 30 +yrs ago works like a new one

I had a buddy way back in the day who had a 69 440 6-pack roadrunner, and had a cheetah reverse shift manual valve body ... He never had any problems and it was a consistent 12.2 car
