I tell ya, I just LOVE these kind of phone calls from the machine shop.

Shop: Hello, John? Got a minute ?
John: Sure.... what up ?
Shop: The previous shop that did your heads, were they an AUTOMOTIVE shop ?
John: Why ? Is something wrong ?
Shop: Yep.... it looks like Mongo the Ape Boy was practicing on your heads.... Valve seats are sunk so low that you have to cut the heads and install new seats. Plus the valves are cut incorrectly, might want to consider new valves. Come on out, I'll show you.
John: So, what are you saying ? (while I feel lunch starting it's return trip......)
Shop: Um.... you don't want to sink too much into these heads, do you?
John: Um...no. (grilled chicken is in the back of my throat....)
Shop: Come out & look at these things.
John: No, I can't right now.... (I know I'm turing green at this point)
Shop: You might want to consider a different set of heads.

I ask his honest opinion. He suggests I scrap the thought of using the X heads. They weren't milled correctly, the valves & seats are questionable, and after all, they're 37 yrs. old. I should sell them to a numbers-matching guy, and go aftermarket. Here we go.......I take a deep breath and call my wife.

John: Hi honey ! Have I told you today how much I love you ?
Amy: How much more does the engine need....
John: Why do you always assume I want something?
Amy: Cut the bullshit.... How much more money?
John: Maybe another grand...or so.
Amy: (I hear the sound of her lunch boomerranging in Manhatten....) HOW MUCH!?!?!?!?!
John: Should I start packing now, or do you want to personally kick me out ?
Amy: Don't be silly. You want them buy them.
John:___________________
Amy: Hello?
John: ___________________
Amy: You there?
John: (In shock with a bad taste in my mouth....) Uh, yeah... I'm here.
Amy: Go ahead, spend.... Just get used to the idea that I'll need many back rubs and cooking duties handled.
John: NO PROBLEM! :downtown:

OK, so maybe there are better reasons for spending money like mad, but I have a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads coming ! And no, my wife does NOT have a twin sister.

Good for you John, that thing is going to rock! I am going to start working on my love for a set of TTI headers but not till after golf season is over.:supz:

John you don't have to be told how good and understanding
your wife is, you know it.

But I just have to tell you that I really admire the way you
tell a story. :supz:

Good luck !!!

How come on this side of the Hudson when my wife says go ahead and buy, it translates into "your sorry a$$ better be working overtime to pay for this". Must be the city water that helps with the thought process.

Your wife is truely a gem. You better be buying her flowers every week for the next 6 months.

BTW, you'll love those Eddy heads! Where did you order them from?

Unexpected flowers (especially delivered to her work) and gold and silver trinkets go a long way to freeing up funds for automotive projects. ;)

I showed this thread to my wife... She wasn't as amused as I was.

I don't how you guys with wives do it. Basically every extra cent I have goes toward my car, and I have money I put in a special car fund every paycheck as part of my budget. I guess I'm smart in trying to get everything I can possibly get done with the car before I get married, which should be awhile I don't even have a girlfriend.

When you've got a house, wife, kid, two other cars (one with a payment), full insurance on those cars, electricity, water, credit cards and other bills, there isn't much "extra". :toothy5:

Sorry dude.... I can't be held responsible for the actions of my wife

While it sounds so cool, the bottom line is I'm going to borrow some bucks from our vacation fund. I have until Oct. to replace the "borrowed" money, otherwise San Diego is not going to happen. Fortunately I don't have to grab the whole amount for the heads. I just need a little bit to add to what I've already stashed away. It's just that I have to ask permission.

If the money don't make it back THEN we'll see how much of a gem my girl is while she's feeding me piece by piece to the dog

I used to write column's for my car club newsletters years ago and they went over really well with the guys. I just enjoy relating a good story. Must be the entertainer in me from my rock-n-roll days....

No, doubt!

My wife is killer too. She let me buy my aluminum heads awhile back also. Then she let me take a motor with only 20 minutes on it and put better H beam rods in it, deck it for better quench, change cam and springs and let me send my heads to Ryan so that he could port them.

Good story, even better wife! Good heads too!

Sounds alot like my wife, with the exception, she takes the oppurtunty to go get herself a few nice things shortly there after. How could I complain...it's only money, er I mean debt..!

well with me, my wife is a car nut as much as i am so its easy to get things when they are needed. when we have the $$ that is..... and your car will never be done. they never are. theres always something that breaks, or needs work or you think of something cool to put in.... its never done.......

Believe me I know it will never be done. Just want to get as much of my vision of the car complete before marriage or any of that.

Trust me I have the credit cards, rent, utilities, school, only one car almost paid for, and all that other stuff just no kids or wife (almost happened). I have very little "extra money" too just whatever I can put back, I happy to be good with money guess it is a gift. Money isn't something I have alot of I'll put it like this I make a little less in 1 month than I made in a week in the Army, and I wasn't high ranking E4 with 4 years in if anyone wants to look it up I'm not telling. Part of the reason I don't have a girlfriend is money I figured they cost atleast $3000 a year, and that is conservative estimate. That's 1 date a week at $34 dollars a date plus some other expenses. Couldn't imagine how much a wife and kids would cost.

You never know exactly, until you get divorced. And then the Judge in divorce court tells you how much they are worth!! :eye:

Good story John. My wife is usually a gem as well, but she always has a personal motive behind it. I spend, she spends. She spends more but I enjoy less.

That's not my car in the avatar..... If I posted a picture of mine you wouldn't read my posts. ;)

Im not married, dont have a GF,

im just an 18 year old who is living off XboX and Playstation Modifications aswell as Car Media Centers

Good story. I call my wife "appropriations". Sometimes things die in commitee, sometimes they pass through very smoothly. Bringing home cookies, chocolate, flowers, ect. Seems to help things pass "appropriations" She's a benevolent ruler.

Hey John, good way to tell the wife!!

and you say she has no sister well my wife could pass for her sister in the way yours told you mine would have said the same as i got close to $19G's into my 71 demon \\:D/ and all she said was is it ready for the road yet.

But she always gets what she wants and after 40 years of me and the cars shes a good woman.
