Rumblefish, you are right that Areochambers are high tech and sound good but I have to respectfully disagree about the sound absorbing material. Here is a shot of my cutaway and you can clearly see the material surrounding the perforated chamber. Not much, .375" to .500" thick, but it is there to cut out the raspiness.
It is really sort of a simple expansion muffler, with sound absorbing material, and one Helmholtz tuning chamber. A sweet piece, flows a lot of air but a bit loud for me, not for others though. :):)
