What did the factory use?

For what its worth, all the production cars I have seen had black painted UCA's and the LCA's were bare steel that had been dipped in cosmolene. When we restore a front end, we try to replicate the factory finish in appearance, but we powdercoat the parts to provide better corrosion resistance and easier cleaning.

I powdercoat the LCA's and then use a super secret formula to replicate the "gorilla snot" look of cosmolene (chuckle).

Here is a picture of one of our restored front ends (AdamRR's picture above is also one of ours - pretty cool to see it used as a reference by folks!)



you can see the Upper Control Arms powdercoated black and the Lower Control Arms powdercoated to look like plain steel and the gold/greenish finish to look like cosmolene.
