What kind of regulator? Old style with 1 ign and 1 field wire? Or the new electronic for 2 field wire alts? In the future, to check for output of a dual field alt w/o reg, put one field to ground, and 1 field to the hot bat terminal on the alt. Then check voltage while running. With those high output alts, you definitely should bypass the ammeter.
