I need to replace the old cardboard style headliner in my Dart sport. I've seen the new ABS plastic ones that are covered with colored foam fabric and available in assorted colors on ebay(174.95 plus $60.00 shipping). I want a Black one and am curious as to where the best/cheapest place to buy one of these is? Are the ones on ebay a fair deal. Anybody use one of these/ how's the fit? it seems like they would retain their shape forever.

Been curious about these also. The kid needs one for his '72 Duster, waiting to see what he does. He wants to get it running this summer but don't know how complete it will be. Maybe he'll let us know if they are worth it.

I've decided to go ahead and get one, they seem like they are way better quality than the painted cardboard originals. I'm not to worried about being original I just want my interior to look nice and painted cardboard headiners suck. I had my cardboard one covered in the foam fabric years ago and it turned out really nice but eventually the cardboard warped and now sags downward in the middle from the moisture in the air (I live in the NW). I'll let everyone know how it turns out in case they are interested as well.

Thanks. N.W. here too, not far apart. Yes lots of moisture, if they have set for a while they sag. A.B.S. shouldn't be so heavy that it would sag. Should hold it's shape for a long time. Maybe we'll see it at the Salem show July 19, or Woodburn on the 20th. Ray

Where do you guys get this stuff from? And does it come with the fabric? I need headliner for my '70 Duster also.

I think the new plastic ones need to be covered. But gives you a great base to start with.
I covered my card board one with black vinyl and it came out nice. Have won a best interioer so it must look ok.

I own a 72..cardboard ones make the interior look like crap..I got some bows from a donor 70 and put a fabric liner in place of the cardboard one..i wish i could have used the shoulder harnesses but was unable to ..anyway..fabric looks way better than cardboard...heard too many horror stories about the new abs ones in regards to fit..? my 2 cents...

Maybe an old card board one looks like crap but one redone with vinyl loos great. I would get the One from Danted made of plastic if you can not reuse the old one and cover it.
I( used some material from a comercial place that sells only to shops and trim shops.
Sprayed 3-M contack glue just like doing a vinyl top doing one side at a time.
It must look good since i won quite a few best interior at shows and 3 best of show as well as Best of class at the ISCA/WOW divison show
Material was for a bed cover so it was wide enough to make it in 1 piece.
They also had more than one grain to chose from.

glad the recover worked for you..do you have a pic ...

That sounds familiar! I'm trying to find a headliner for my '73 Duster because I want to get mine ready for summer.

We just ordered new seat covers and door panels for our 73 Duster from Legendary. When I asked about the new plastic headliners, Legendary said not to waste our money. Apparently there are significant fit issues.

We're going to recover the cardboard one we have.

Thanks,
Ken

I find it odd that Legendary shot down the abs headliners with out giving you an option. I will be buying one soon because mine is sagging and can't be recovered. I have installed my own cloth headliners before without a problem but the fact mine didn't have one makes me want to stay with the ridged style, this way i don't have to do any major alterations, gezz how bad can they be?

I never did buy one yet but I imagine they fit fine and that Legendary is going to rip them because they want to sell you one of theirs. I like the one piece design of my cardboard original but it is sagging due to moisture. The new plastic ones, not being cardboard, being in the northwest will eliminate any chance of sagging due to moisture. The Plastic ones are covered with newer foam material and offerred in different colors as well. I just haven't got around to it yet but i'm definitely getting one.

My son and I just put in a ABS plastic one about a month ago ,the only problem we had is in the corners where it tucks under the window rubber .The cardboard one we had was so warped that it stretched out the rubber in the corners. I talked to the company that we got it from and the guy said to give it some time and the rubber will snug up again. I beleive him because it already looks better. We will post pics tomorrow,to late tonight for pics and I will find out where we got it from, will have to go through the Duster receipts , I was very happy with it , Not too bad to install. it has all the cut outs for dome lights and visors if you choose to put them in other wise they can be left out. I suggest to put them in because they help hold every thing in place.

OK I found the receipt for ours the place is called topsonline.com in Panarama City, Ca .Phone # is (818) 786-3156 a little pricey but worth it I think. It came to a little over 200.00 $ with tax and shipping.

you can go to a sign shop and get the a b s plastic they use for signs, then trace your old one. I installed mine before covering it and use the foil ac tape to smooth the bend lines and seams and covered it with the headliner fabric for newer cars in my son's duster.then I made one for my "waggin" the same way but incorporated an overhead console and a lighting fixture from a conversion van.the abs is very light weight.sorry don't have pic's of the duster headliner right now.it was 20$ for the 4 X 8 sheet of abs and 45 for the headliner material(enough to do the waggin including the b and c pillars) and 15 $ for a can of 3-m 90 spray adhesive.5$ for a roll of the foil tape for smoothing the seams. If doing this your self you have to spray the material and what you are sticking it to.hope this helps.

Good point DartSportGreg...I'm in the Northwest...well in BC so I'll be getting a plastic one.

The guy at Legendary just said that they don't fit well. I hadn't heard anything about them, and since they're expensive to buy and ship, and our cardboard one isn't too bad, we decided to skip it. He didn't mention that they had an alternate type.
From what others are saying, sounds like they aren't a problem.
I hope they work out. :)

I Hear The Plastic Ones Are 1/2 Inch Too Short Front To Back ????
