Scored a decent set of 15" Cragar SS/T wheels, with decent tires. Problem is, they have been sitting for years and there are a few specks of rust here and there. What is the best method to clean these wheels up as good as possible for just driver use? I thought I recall someone mentioning super fine steel wool, but the majority of posts in this section are mentioning tire and wheel sizing, not necessarily cleaning/polishing issues.

wd40 and tin foil. Try it before you laugh. :toothy10: steel wool scratches the finish pretty bad. Chrome/metal polish works well too.

I don't recommend the steel wool because it will leave scratches unless you use a really fine grade. I've had good luck with cotton wadding type polishes. I can't think of any names off of the top of my head. I used to get it at motorcycle shops. They usually come in a can about the size of some hand cleaner cans. Maybe 3" tall & 4 1/2" in diameter. It's a cotton wadding impregnated with some type of chemical/buffing compound. You just tear off a piece & start polishing. It cleans off the rust & leaves a bit of a film to help prevent future rust. If I can find a can I'll post the name. Maybe somebody else here knows of a brand name for the stuff.
