30 years between runs
Back when I was running NMRA Pure Street (with a friend who drove the car), I had the race car in the garage.
Pure Street is a no index heads-up Ford class, 310 CID max, hydraulic roller cam limited to .500 lift, street type ported heads, intakes, 650 carb or EFI, stock suspension, 10" tire, 5 speed stick (T5 or Tremec) or overdrive auto trans , 3250 pounds race weight. Naturally aspirated. The car held both ends of the record that year at 10.53 at 126 mph. It was good enough to win three races and get to the final at every race that year except Joliet where we broke. LOL
Whoever came over to the house (friends of friends, plumber, cable guy, whatever) would always ask what it ran. When I told them they always proceeded to tell me about how either they or their uncle's friend's cousin had this Camaro that was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster. I had no idea how many 9 and 10 second cars there were that never showed up at the track!
I then realized what an idiot I was. It's significantly cheaper and easier to say it goes fast, than to actually do it. The rewards are apparently similar.
Live and learn!
