guess so - noone else is stepping up :booty:

If/when I do, I will use the Keisler bolt in kit. I'll probably go with the TKO-600. Not sure how much torque my 416 stroker will put out, so it may be slight overkill. But I like the gear spacing on the 600 better, and it's only a couple hundred more than the 500.

Are you going to use a bolt in kit, or cobble something up yourself?

kit made by a different company.... includes the scattershield, trans, hydraulic clutch, hydraulic TO bearing, alignment kit, hardware, speedo cable, slipyoke, trans mount

well, i dont have one, but my buddy does. he has a dakota 5 speed in his 69 satellite. the only problem is, he had his flywheel/clutch zero balanced and now he finds out he'll have to get his motor internally balanced for it to work.
but i think he has said f'ck it and is going with a 383 4 speed when he finishes putting his 76 d100 back together.

i have had the Keisler unit sitting in my garage for almost a year now. Working on getting a rottiserie built to do the body work and paint. Looks like we are in the same boat.

I would go ahead and get the hydraulic clutch setup and the Lakewood Bellhousing. It's bitching. Pretty red too. The TKO-500 is good for a small block up to 450-500 hp according to Keisler. The TKO-600 for the more beefy big blocks

I'll be running 3.23 in mine. should be nice at 80 too.

I have a 69 valiant that I put a 5 speed in, it is out of an s10 pickup, I really like it, but I have 2.94 gears in right now, havent put the 391 in yet, but as soon as it warms up I will, I have gotten 2 speeding tickets already, one 90 in a 75 and another 73 in a 55, when in overdrive, it likes to cruise, The 2.94 was a temporary deal till I got the ls put into the 391, but I have that done now, just been lazy.
I used the master out of the s10, it almost was a bolt in deal, had to drill a hole where the ol rod went thru, and it bolted to the pedal nice also. I used a lakewood adaptor bell, Howe hydro release bearing, braided an-4 lines and that all works sweet. I used the dodge 10.5 flywheel and pressur plate, but I had to get a chevy clutch disc, also had to make an adaptor for the chev sized input bushing. I had to cut a hole in the tunnel and I had to drill a hole in the trans mount and that was about it, not to bad of a deal at all.

I've considered this myself and I am still debating. It will be the Keisler setup or a 700r4, yes i know it's GM, but it wouldn't be Hot Rodding if we could simply just throw parts in the car. Anyhow one thing I've found that could save anyone considering this is Keisler adds 500 or so to the price to have the shifter in the offset location. If you browse thier website you'll see what I'm talking about. I was discussing with one of the guys at Keisler and they have had a few people complain of the shifter being too far to the left. I'm a pretty big guy, I told them I may want the shifter back in the stock for Tremec location and he said it would save some money.

From a voice of experience, a Dakota 5 speed WILL NOT work into an A body.
The tranny is @ 2" longer in the worst place it could be, at the back of the case, right around the tranny mount.
Major restructuring ot the tranny/torsion bar support/floor would be necessary.

My best advice for fuel mileage is to use either the 833-O/D, or use an early 3.08 1st gear gearset from a '64-'66 6 cylinder 4 speed and 2.76 rear end gears, all behind a well-tuned V-8.

Mark.

i have talked with tremec,,,thats is who builds the keisler trany,,,keisler just modifies it to fit any mopar,,tremec told me the small tranny will with hold most any thing,,,i am looking in to the smaller one cause i like the ger ratio better,,,keisler keeps trying to tell me it wont hold up,,,tremec tells me no problem, so dont let them b,s you,,
i currently have a 340 in a 66 barracuda 6;71 blower,33x22 hoosier radials tires street driven car 8 3/4 rear with a 456 gear with a 1965 formulas S barracuda 4 speed tranny has a 3.09 first gear and cruises the interstate at 2800 rpm at 60 mph,,,just under 10 mile per gallon,, bu ide love to try an over drive tranny.....

sounds interesting! What kind of S10? What engine or are all 5 speeds the same (2.8 and 4.3 are different or not?)

Its been a few years hope you still log in ,Thanks for the heads up on the swap I will get my tape out and measure everything this car needs floors and torsion mounts redone anyway. Thanks Mark Later Bob J

I was thinking the Nash route, also. It's 70's tech, so it will be clunky, but no worse than an 833, and probably not much worse than a Tremec (from what I've seen of their truck trans. I was not impressed, remember it's a former GM Division). There does not seem to be much info out there, so give Richmond a call.

Why would anyone put a 700R4 in Mopar when Mopar has OD versions of the 904 and 727?

Chuck

Because one is smaller and lighter and requires some cutting, and the other requires a ton of cutting.

Though a 200r4 would be better choice than either of the two.

I'm not sure I'd be too worried about any of the ratings that the different companies throw out. For what it's worth, the T56's out there in Vipers are only rated at 450-550 and I just watched a stock one dyno 978 ft/lbs through it and the guy has been driving it that way for a while. Probably not good for the longevity, but it'll work fine if you don't beat the hell out of it daily I'd imagine.
