Just figured I would let you guys know of my new found love for this style A-body Mopar. I never liked Dusters and Demons. I always thought they were ugly. In fact, the only A-body that I really liked was the 68 & 69 darts. I've always been a B-body guy. In fact my first car I ever bougt out of High School was a 69 Superbee with a ramcharger hood. That all changed a few months ago when a guy I know from work offered me a 73 340 Duster for $400. Since then, I bought a second 73 space Duster from a guy on this site. It has an original POWER sunroof! Anyway, now I'm hooked. I've put my Superbee (my second one of those too) restoration on hold and am now focused on my 340 Duster. I still eventually want a 68 or 69 dart, but that will have to wait. I'll post pics when I start working on them in the next couple of months. A-body's rule! :prayer:

Dan, most people do come around sooner or later...Glad to hear you made it. The Duster/Demon with a well built hi winding 340/360 small block makes a great package for street or strip. Good luck on you 'new' project. Terry.

Pound for pound the best Mopar combo. My second car was a Duster and
now on my 5th Duster. This one matches the first. Both Sassy Grass Green.
Had all the others. B & E bodies. Went back to the best. A bodies Only!!!!
Have fun with it. Green Duster

have to agree still own my first car a 73 duster wish now have a 340 that on ocations scream to over 7500rpms perfect for street/strip duty;)

Ya gotta love em ! I would still own my old green Dart if this 63 hadn't come my way. Thank god my son bought my Dart real cheap from me so I could get my 63 as I love the Max Wedge cars also ! Ron

Hate is such a powerful word! :angry7:

Welcome to the A body world! :burnout:

You're right. I could never HATE any Mopar anyway. They just weren't my favorite body style. Now I think they look bad-azz! It's funny how your tastes can change and how you can appreciate things better as time goes on.

I never really cared for Dusters or Demons myself for the longest time.
Then, about 3 years ago, I was at the drag strip and this guy with
a 71 Duster was kicking the crap out of every car there. It had
lite weight bumpers and fenders and a 416 small blockw/ nitrous.
It wasn't tubbed but was a purpose built drag car.
Then a couple monthes later I found my '70 "Orangedust" 340.
I love "B" bodies myself and hope to own another one some day
but I would'nt sell my Duster forever. (unless Hemi-Cuda numbers.)
This past April , I was in Vegas for the Mopars at the Strip, and
there were a ton of Dusters pulling the wheels off the ground, and
blistering down the quarter. This added to me appreciating them.
I was offered 3 times what I paid for my Duster, and I turned it
down. I will never again find one off the original owner a 340 4spd.
car in Vitamin "C", orange w/ 60,000 miles.

I never was a real big Duster supporter. BUT... I always loved the way that the tail lights looked on the Demon... and the little red demon dude with the pitchfork looked cool too!

I am 49 years old, and I picked up my first Demon, a 71, a little over a year ago.

Since then I have also grabbed up a 72 Dart and a 75 Dart Sport Convertriple.

I have always been a MOPAR guy... but I favored the heavy metal B & E bodies... BUT NOT ANYMORE!!!

I may have gotten heavier over the years... but my cars have gotten lighter!

Welcome to the Dark Side
A small block Duster or Demon is a giant killer. I always liked how it looked heavy like a Chevelle but it was alot lighter.

Hey there, Pro Street... I see that you live pretty close to where I am.

Right you are about being a giant killer! I am re-working a 318/A833 for my Demon right now that should be pretty formidable.

But there will be a super trick 360 that will be built for me starting in the spring. The builder is probably the best small block MOPAR guy that there is in the world. What I will be getting back from him will be a one off engine that will basically be a sprint car racing engine that will be "de-tuned" to about 580 horses for the street.

That should give me quite a wild street car... if I can get it to hook up!

There are many plans in the making for my Demon if I can get them pulled together. By the time it is done, the weight of the car should be around 2400 lbs.

You have a sweet ride there. What are you running in it for a drivetrain?

I like e bodies but am really not crazy about them.

I love my '70 charger and 74 road runner- even though with an a body you get more car for your money. B's are sweet to even though nothing is like the right a-body.

I don't hate anything or anybody..but the '70-'71 duster is handsdown the best one ma mopar ever produced..b and e bodies..you can keep em'..owned a few but came right back to an A-BODY!!!

Same here....I didn't like them when they were new. It seemed like Chrysler cut corners with them (flip-out back windows) and in Florida they all seemed to have skinny tires, boring colors, they were 'granny' cars. With the right wheels, tires and paint the styling somehow comes through a lot better.

LOL...i hear that all the time..once they see it run they know"granny did not own one like this"..LOL..

HA! A converted B body guy, lol. Now you will need that lovely bench seat, lol.

I have to admit that I would love to have a 65 Belvedere 2 door post car. They are roomier than an A body and also not that heavy (3500 lb or so) for a B. They appear larger than they really are due to the large nose on them, but pop the hood and there is a ton of air between the grille and rad.

Yea I heard the granny comments too. Then I put a 5 car holeshot on them and their whole attitude changes. A bodies do not get near the respect the "big" cars get. I love all of 'em. A, B, C, E, F and on and on.

Wow - forgot all about this post. For the record, I still have the Duster, and have since owned and sold one 73 duster, and 68 and 70 darts. Still have the 73 duster that prompted me to start this thread - don't know why I thought it was a POWER sunroof - it's manual. But I have converted it into a 71 demon clone - they just look so much better. Going with a pro-touring type build with plans for and AlterK front, and Street lynx rear. Already picked up the 5.7 hemi for it.

Oh yeah - love the A bodies - now I'm dying to get my hands on a 67-69 Barracuda fast back project for the right price. They're just so damn sexy looking.

Still a B-body guy at heart - had to sell off my 69 bee project - but still have my 68 Charger with a 525hp 440, 4 speed.

Hello,

I am new to this forum, but had to get my two cents in...

I have owned three A-bodies over the years, a '72 Swinger, '73 Scamp, and my current A-body (and the first one I'm resto-moding), a '73 Gold Duster.

I have always liked the looks of these cars - particularly Dusters and 2nd Gen. Barracudas (something about fastbacks, I guess).

I find it ironic that Plymouth wasn't suppose to have the Duster and came up with it on the sly on a shoestring budget - but it was so popular Dodge wanted a copy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all!
