I have a 66 barracuda and the picture is of the grill insert mine came with. The rear emblem is the same, I have been told that it may be early 66. I know it looks like the valiant emblem. I am just curious how many are out there like it. I know I have not seen one anywhere yet. Let me know guys, thanks.

Vic, thats from the early production 66's (late 65 thru early Feb 66). After that they got the fish grille emblem. I have that same 1 on mine but also bought a couple of the fish emblems for the grille. You should have the matching emblem in the center of the rear window trim right above the trunk.

it appears from that pic, they used the valiant emblem in a baracuda center grille,,the valiant center grille uses a valiant emblem but not with the big bezel around it,, that same bezel is on the fish emblem,,,so i would say you could convert it to the fish emblem with out switching to the valiant center grille,, the 2 center grilles look that same unless you compare them side by side with the emblems off,,,

the rear window trim,,64/65 used the valiant emblem in the center,, the 66 used the fish,, but appears yours is either an early model,,or maybe a canadian model,,,,im guessing a early production,,

the 1964 barraacuda early production had a valiant script on the right side just under the trunk lid,, the 1964 65 66 barracudas are based off the valiant as you can see,,,finding another valiant grile emblem like yours may be very hard,,,

That emblem looks like it's from a 1964 Valiant. Here's a picture from the Valiant.org website. I'd say it's not original for a 1966 Barracuda.

vic ,
fstfish66 is correct on every thing he said.
i have 14 of the early cudas 64to66 also 4 /66 val.
i have seen them ever which way.
but you may very well have a canadain.
just my 2 cents.

66aCUDA has a 66 Barracuda with the same emblem as yours and Badawg's.
My 63 Valiant Segnet I had has about the same.

So they are on other 66's, that gives me relief, I didn't want to have to change it because I would have to change the rear pieces also and they are too hard to find. Mine isn't very good but it's orig. so it will stay for now. Here is a pic of mine in the grill, it's like they had a bunch of left over inserts that they decided to use up huh? Thats funny but it's cool learning about our cars and this IS a great collective for learning for sure!

i havemt read about the emblem switch,,but i will after this post,,lol

don c that pic loks likwe it was taken at the auburn hills chrysler musuem.

VIC,, nope no one threw it together,,your emblem was made with the same bezel meening the big chrome circle as the fish emblem,,,so its mnot a thrown together deal,,,you could very easy switch it to a fish emblem,,using your same center grille,,,but if you leave it the way it is,,trust me if you go to an al mopar event,,you will hear all kinds of redickulis things from people just speculating,,,,i vote,, keep the valiant emblem it shows its an early production,,,wonder what else may be different on that car,,,valiant or barracuda rear lenses????

wow just read the article,, intresting!!!!! how ever did you find some thing like that,,,,and i cant for the life of me figure out ,,how so much info is available on the net,, ever wonder who puts it all on here????

so your valiant emblemed barracuda could be a canadian car,,i was just guessing cause of all the weird things mopar did with canadian cars,, or a south african car,,,highly doubt it swam back from africa,,lol

The "V" emblem may have been used on a Canadian and S African cars, but it this case it is an early production 66 as others have posted. I have one of these cars (V8/factory half vinyl roof) and I am the second owner. It was bought new by the original owner from a dealership in Northern NJ. (I bought it from the same dealership as they resold it for the owner in 1981). I also have a copy (I'll have to dig it up) of I think it was Motor Trend from 1965 that has a test drive of the 66 B'cuda. The car pictured in that article has the "V" grill emblem shown above on it.

pics of your 2 owner car would be nice,,,

I had to chuckle when I saw this post because it reminded me of the same question left unanswered since 1973. When I was in college my good friend had a red 66 Barracuda. We often parked my 64 and his 66 next to each other. One day we came out and there was a yellow 66 parked next to his. We went searching for the owner. A girl had aquired the car from her Grandmother and she became a friend of ours because of her car. One day we noticed that her car had the Valiant emblem on the grill and his had the fish. The only other difference between the cars except color was that his had an "Economy Gauge" and hers didn't. I suggested that the difference between the emblems was probably based on production date so we checked the serial numbers. Hers was later than his! Same plant. So we shrugged our shoulders and forgot about it. Until now!!!

I'll post some pictures of my 2 owner car from when I bought her back in 81' later this week-end

Thats a great stoy Grimreaper, I would sure love to see a pick of them sitting together back in the day, very cool.

This scan is from Road & Track Magazine-March 1966 Issue -Pages-90-91.
1966 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA S ORIGINAL 1966 ROAD TEST ARTICLE TITLED " 1966 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA S- DISC BRAKES DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. " Note the grill emblem on the car in the picture.

Now that is a cool add, talk about showing the car in its heyday! Notice the "10.4" 0-60 and the "14MPH". That is too cool, I am loving the "$3357" price tag too, he wanted 3500 for mine when it was being advertized. Times have surely changed.
