New Dodge Challenger concept to compete with the new Ford Poopstain?
2157602_4_full.jpg

To be unvailed in January 2006 in Detriot.
6.1L HEMI Option
6 Speed Trans W/ Pistol Grip Shifter
Built on the 300/Charger platform
Now only if they wise up and build it

Save your Nickles!!!!

Thanks, 7demon2 for the pics and the link. I like the car, but would like to see one with a rear valance. Also, they could streamline the front end some. From the pictures the front end looks kind of cheaply made, sure it will be better when (optimistic) car is produced, and the thickness of the front end from the top of the hood to the airdam is kind of ugly, atleast I think so. I do love the paint, and the wheels and think the lines other than the front end are pretty nice.

Any other thoughts.

i'm not too sure about the back....it at first glance remindes me of a late 80's early 90's firebird. something about the fat bumper cover and the all red tail light. it think that if they broke it up some with a white reverse light in the middle of that light it would look better. it may already have that but it is hard to tell from the pictures. i haven't given up on it though. at least they are trying to bring it back. it will just add to the chrysler mystic. and then add to the overall value of all the old cars! so bring them on......

Yeah, I thought the rear end looked alot like a Firebird too. I agree maybe some white reverse lights would help. I thought circular lights in the rear would look cool, but I guess that is not old schoolesque. But anything with 2 doors, V8, six speed, and rear wheel drive, and Sirius radio would be a huge plus, will be good.

Let's see if they price the car in the average guys range, GM's Z28 could be had for under 30k when they dropped it , their new GTO is 10k more than the car it replaced. not to mention that ugly thing they call a retro ??? that one is almost the cost of a new vette.....
the trend has to over price these new cars ,to the point it will still be out off the average car guys reach, chances are we will still be driving the origionals....and they will never figure out why these old cars are in more demand than there "flash in the pan newbee "...lets see ... a new model for 40k +, or a 440 dart for half of that... think I will be building a 440 dart........

yeah it is a wonder if it is a matter of time that chrysler will bring back any old plymouth names....humm? duster, cuda, gtx, or road runner reborn again! nothing is impossible these days

Not a bad looking car. I'ts ashame what they did with the new charger. Great power for a new car, but the styling looks like my grandpa.

Yea I have been reading about this for a while now. I really like the car and glad to see MoPar getting into 2 door sports car game. I agree with the firebird look.

I think the car looks cool, but I think the concept picture looks KILLER and should stick to that one instead. If the pistol grip shift is true I would love to see what its going to look like. I just hope that it won't some plastic POS.

With all the buzz going on at Barrett Jackson about MoPars and alot of people who grew up seeing these and the Mudstangs. I think this would sell really well with the older crowd then catch onto the youngins'. Then finally outsell Mudstangs once they catch on. Then maybe we'll MoPar come out with some cool RWD 2 Dr cars!

BTW I agree with what they did to the Charger!!!!

I hate when they bring back a car that was a 2 door into a 4 door!?!?!?!?!?

I think it looks more like the original Challenger than the new Charger looks like it's namesake. The rear actually (at least IMO) looks a little like the '70-'71 Challenger rear.

I doubt it'll be in my price range, but it would be nice to see them on the road.

Maybe I can find a wrecked one and drop the hemi/6 speed combo into my Barracuda! :toothy10:

If the boys at mopar can do what the boys at ford did with the mustang and put lines and stlye in the like the ford boys, they could not keep the car on the lot long enough before it would be sold like the mustang. With the stang you see the 67-68-69-70 cars in different spots and know right away. The challenger has to be the same way as does the charger, which I worked on a day ago and can say its know were near a charger from years past. There are no reference to the older car at all.Only if you use a wild mind, can you come up with maybe this or that, but my money is staying in my pocket for sure. Now do I want a 300M,oh ya,I want that baby for sure,Mrmopartech

IMO the only reason people bought the Charger was to have the name,
That car looks nothing like what A charger should look like. Yeah they brought the name back, But it was on a 4 door. Im not saying It should have looked like the days of old, But even the 1st concept that they were toying with was much better then the polished turd they released.

So now Ma Mopar sees what the boys at Ford have done and they see the sales numbers to go with it. I know for a fact that the new mustang was/is a hot item. Dealers here cant keep them on the lot long enough for other people to see them because as soon as they come in there gone. And all the while Mopar was saying there was no market for a 2 door car anymore. REALY?

Odds are the car would be in the price range of the current Charger and SRT Charger (for the SRT Challenger). But It its good to see that there thinking about it and not saying theres no market for it.
Sure it's not a 1970-71 HEMI Challenger, But think of it this way.
For the people that want the old Muscle but dont have time to mess with them can now (maybe) have one. And just seeing one on the street might change a kids mind about that neat lil' rice rocket sitting in the neighbors yard for sale and think about some real power for once.

425HP out of a 6.1L, Thats more ponys then what Ford is offering. Ford dont even offer that unless you look into a Roush Built Mustang. I didnt have time to mess with the Challenger I had due to the Cuda. but Im darn well going to be inline for this car if its built like the pictures show.

My hats off to Ma Mopar for even thinking in the right direction. So if they build it? Id be glad to give the shirt off my back to go with it.

what effect will this new car have on the older muscle car prices? in my latest issue of muscle car review, they run a comparison of the 06 charger r/t against a 70 375 hp charger r/t. the 06 was quicker in the slalom, stop in a shorter distance, & the important part the 06 was quicker in the 1/4. 06 et 14.23 @ 98.78, the 70 et 14.45 @ 97.36. you got to think with the raising cost of muscle cars, why would i want the older car, that may cost more than the 06. and is nicer to drive & faster!

If they make a Cuda like that, I'm selling my junk to get one. I have that as a screen saver with a different grill. A Cuda grill. I went and did a search on the artist and found his site with a lot more pics (Drawings/paintings whatever.....) of different cars.

!st you need to ask yourself this.
What do I want more?

Knowing this will help in making up your mind.
Sure having the new car is quicker and bett to drive. But, It it moslt likly hood will never hold the value the new car will. It might hurt the prices, It might not. Might help some peole release the cars they have that say there going to fix up but never will to someone who will.
With GM going broke the inports will take over the #1 spot for selling, IMO this is sad. For America we should stand behind US made stuff.

Now then, Why would I buy an old 69 Charger over a new 2006?
Do I realy need to answer that question?

Correct, The Pic I posted was NOT, Was NOT. The real car. But very very close to it.
I used it to help show (since the spy pics didnt show much) what it looked like.
If they build it, I can tell you I will be there to post an order for one in a heart beat.
I was telling the guys at work today about the car and at lunch I bought a St.Louis paper and sure enought it was in the autp section about this car.

They say the head cheese wont talk on if they will build it, But they say all the parts are on the shelf to do so. Here is a quote : " With that being said, The best question to ask is, Why wouldnt they build it".

don't get me wrong, i love the old chargers. what i think these new cars will do is the average working stiff with a family & a budget. its going to be like 1970 all over for these guys, who won't a fast & reliable vehicle to fit in everyday life. who may like to challenge the punk teen in the rice burner @ the stop light. another advantage if it gets wrecked or stolen, it can be replaced.

Mopar actually put in a copyright on roadrunner..somehthing to come? and i think volare..and o i love the way the car looks.

Steve

lets see ....the old charger was 375 hp. 3700 lbs they run almost the same times....that new one must be over 4000 lbs....what a turd

thats no better than the new GTO,,, and much worse the the damm stang.

oh yea ...also when was the last time you went salom racing???

from what i've read they're only going to produce 5,000 to 10,000 cars a year. remember when the viper came out with low production numbers and how much they were selling for? we can all expect that kinda senario. so it's about as likly for me to ever afford to buy one of these as a ferrari or other exotic car besides if i were to invest even half that amount of money into my scamp it would be twice the car and get twice the looks

i think these are going to be a main stream vehicle for them, & i think they will be priced with mustang. makes no sense to limit these. of corse for those who have to have the first one on the block, the dealer will be smiling ear to ear
