Wet sanding urethane

Is it base/clear? if it is you can start with 1500, then 2000, then 3000. If it's single stage you have to be more careful, is it metallic? if so, if you sand it, you will wreck the paint job, but if it's single stage no metallic use 2000 and be careful not to sand through.
