Whats The Difference??

Nascar engines are much more in depth than a drag engine, nascar engines have to sustain rpms and a drag engine only needs to run rpms for a short time. A drag engine would use the lightest parts and a nascar engine would use the highest strength parts. The cams are very different and so are the heads and blocks. A nascar engine has to be built with the highest quality parts with the least amount of variance, mainly titanium, they also use special cooling and oil systems. They are designed to run hotter than a drag engine and be more efficent. Would they be competitive, yes but not as they are, not without changes. Nascar engines are designed to run in a 500-700 rpm band which changes from track to track, short tracks a lower band, long tracks a higher band. Each engine is built for a given track where as a drag engine is built for 1/4 or 1/8 mile as we only have 2 lengths. There tracks vary from road courses to short tracks to long tracks. So does the cars and engines, gearing, tires.
