Incompetence Rant

I agree, that is why I DO EVERYTHING MYSELF!!!!!!! The only problem whit that is that you must have as many tools as I do. Which takes up about 3/4 of my garage. And my car is outside in the front yard. With a car cover over it. I made the mistake back in '89 to have this "Great custom painting shop" prep, and paint my 47,000 original mile '67 barracuda fastback. I got it back about 6 months later with a bucket full of my door handles, mirrors, emblems, and various trim pieces. Orange peel, runs from hell, numerous fish eye's, and rust bubbles along with 4 very obvious digs that were not there before I brought it to them. I also got handed a bill for $4,000. It was right then that I started to learn how to paint my own cars. Went to school for it. And have been painting cars, boats, heavy equipment, and custom homes and such. I just recently did all my own body work on my '65 barracuda as well. I've never done much actual body work over the years though until recently. But I only had to go out and buy a porta-power and a few packages of sand paper. I already had all of the other equipment to do it all. Out of everything I own as far as tools, I still probably dont have even $4,000 into them. Maybe. So as far as I see it, it is TOTALLY worth buying up all of the equipment and doing it all yourself. At least then, you are getting something for your money. And learning something very useful for the future.
