rings without pulling
They are tough engines and you may find there isn't much cylinder wear but the honing process (minimum for a ring job) would introduce way too much crud if done in-car, esp as simple as a slant sixer is to pull. (Warning... old fart 'back in the day' story coming) When I was 17, I replaced the crank/oil pump in a slant-6 in just under 4 hours and outside in a driveway (had no garage). I pulled the engine out and placed on a portable engine stand. I did NOT pull the pistons.
I am sure I got it dirty but I ran the guts out of it for two years before we sold it with strong oil pressure and pep.
