Running a stock width rear what backspacing is best for a 10" rim?

I wanted to run Pro-stars wich come in 6.5"

Drag-lites come in 7.5"

Or I can just get a set of AutoDrags like I have now with 7.25"

I really want a set of Aluma-stars but they more money then I want to spend on rims.

Here is what we do all the Time........

Take a tape messure from the inside wheel well to the inner lip, This is the max tire width.
Next take a straight edge on the face of the drum and meassure the distace to the inner wheel well, This will give you the back spacing.

Hope any of this helps.

Yeah but I havent done the mini tubbing yet wich wil change my sizing.

Id like to have the tires and rims on hand incase I need to make ither mods to the wheel tubs or 1/4s

Tires will likely be 29X11" hoosier QTPs

Didnt know you were mini tubbing it, that changes everything.
Ok at this point I cant help, I have never sized up a wheel without having something to go by 1st.
So maybe if someone else has done this they can help. Sorry I was of no use :eek:ops:

My Scamp has Welds 15X10 with 8.5 backspace. I have 29X10 goodyear slicks. It is minitubbed even with the frame rail with stock axle housing and LBP Moser axles with B body brakes which widen the drum to drum easurement about 3/4 of an inch.The lip of the wheel opening was shortened slightly for sidewall clearence but the real close area is the front of the wheel opening. When doing a minitubb and relocation move the whole axle rearward and inch or so, it gives you room for taller tires. I have about 1/2 between tire and front of wheel opening with mine moved back. I relocated and minitubbed,then hung a plumbob and plotted the measurements on the floor. I wanted Centerlines but went with Welds because they (Summit) stocked the 8.5 BS.

Hopefully these #'s might help with your figuring:

On my Dart Sport with a 3/4" spring offset kit, I have:

* A-body 8 3/4" w/ 10"x2" brakes & 4.5" bolt pattern Moser axles.
* Stock tubs
*10" rims
* 4 7/8" rear spacing. (Wheel mounting surface to inner edge of rim.)
* 9"x30" Phoenix radials (Actually 9.25" x 29.5" x 12.5" section width.
* Wheelwell lips rolled as much as possible.
* Front & rear trimmed for tire diameter.
* 002/003 SS springs

That gives me about 1" between the springs and sidewall. They sit "just right" inside the wheelwell.

I use to run 10.75" actual tread width slicks (forgot the section width) on 11" rims with the same rear spacing. The extra 1" was to the outside.
It worked but the tires were sticking out just a teeny bit more than I liked.

My wheels are by Holeshot. One nice advantage is that they are a 3-piece wheel and if you decide to make future suspension mods, you can send in the rims and just have the rear spacing changed for a lot less than new wheels! (...or if a part gets damaged, bolt pattern change, etc.)

They are a bit lighter than your typical Weld, Cragar, etc., but more durable and less expensive than the super lightweight (and fragile) Monocoque, Bogart, etc.

Sample prices:
15"x4": $175.50
15"x10": $270.00

Their temporary website is down. But if you would like more info & price comparisons, let me know or call them direct. I can probably email some pics or provide links to some cars that have them.

* HolePro has 10 holes spaced around the wheel center.
Some clear pics on my website.

* HoleStar basically a star-pattern center.

* Penta-Star has 5 large and 5 small pentastars placed around the wheel center. I have the prototypes on my car now (Not in the pic below.) but they are not ready to take orders or release them until later this year.

I like the hole-stars. those are what EvilB1Dart on moparts runs correct ?
How will they hold up to street driving though ?

Yes, EvilB1Dart has them also.

The wheels are not for street use, but some people have said that they do use them on the street. But it stands to reason that they will not hold up as well to pot holes, curbs and probably fast turns.

They could be made stronger with thicker centers and rim-halves, but they will be heavier. I don't know what his policy is on that or about any kind of warranty, but as mentioned, if one piece is damaged, it can be replaced instead of buying a whole new wheel. You would have to ask him about the cost and delivery time also.

If the work were done you could come over and use some of my rims and tires to take measurements off of. You do have large bolt pattern, right?

Right now I am using 28x13.5 ET Street on Weld 15x10 with 7.5" backspacing. (Changing to 30" soon, so hurry!)
I also have 28x11.5 ET Street on Jeep 15x7 with 5" backspacing.

Walter thanks for the offer but I still have small bolt patern at the moment. Im going to try to run what I have if it doesnt work I'll be switching to LBP and trying my 15X8s with 5.5" backspacing.
