The code for my 70 340 duster v8x is tranverse tape sport stripes-black.
Is that for the rear tail panel or side stripes, the car is original hemi -orange but was repainted in '82. The stripes were never put on.
What does that code mean?[/list]

Orangedust, check out the attached link:

http://www.mymopar.com/6971opcodes.htm

This has all the correct codes. The striping info is near the bottom.

V6 is the rear tail panel strip and v8 is the side stripping. X is the color.

hope this helps..

Welcome aboard!

the website helped out a lot the last website I tried only gave like 2 codes
e-55 340 4bbl. & D21 4speed. I still don't know what the Transverse Sport
Stripes mean, the rear panel or side of the car?
The car still looks pretty mean with just the DUSTER 340 decals and the
little Valiant emblems below. Thanks for the help! 8)

Orangedust, the tranverse is the rear end trunk panel striping. The longitudial stripes go down the sides.

Is the hockey stick stripe on 71 dusters the same for 70's I am still up in the air if I want to put the side stripes back on, but have'nt seen the originals on a 70 yet. Do they say "340" on the quarters or is that
for '72's & 73's. :bounce:

Here are a couple pix of a 71 that i bought for parts. It was orange with the stripes down the sides and across the tail panel.
It also had a blacked out hood with what i think  is called strobe stripes(i could be wrong on what there called)The car is long gone so i can't help you out with the codes it had on it.But i hope the pix help! :D

The 1970 side stripes were affixed lower on the car sides. The 71 version and used on 72 models as well, followed the upper contour of the fender, door and rear quarter. These stripes would not be correctly interchanged between the 70 and 71 model Dusters.

Thanks, for the update on the stripes, guys a friend of mine gave some stripes for a '72 but I am not going to put them on if they are not the same for my '70. What year did they start putting on the "340" on the quarters cause I think that looks pretty cool! 8)

1971 was the first year the Duster got its signature 340 call outs on the rear quarters. The 70 model had 340 stickers on her, but they were on the rearward side of each front fender under the Duster emblem. The 70 model had no large rear call out 340 emblems. That started in 71. Hope this helps...

This helps a lot, THANKS! My car says"Duster 340" on the front fender but underneath the decal is a "Valiant" emblem, I guess because the car is very, very, low optioned. I probably will just go by the build sheet, I know it had the Tranverse stripe on the rear the lady I bought the car from told me that, she passed about 2 weeks after that, I just want to have it correct. I wish the elderly lady would have stuck around a lot longer, she had quite a few stories about the car over the years.

Orangedust, the Valiant emblem is correct. Actually had nothing to do with number of options. It was used on 70 model Dusters only and then dropped with the 71 model production. It also had the rear deck transverse stripe kit as well if it was an VS29H code Duster.
