I had an idea last night on how to paint my 75 /6. I was thinking a black metallic underlay... then placing the original decals on the car and having Plum Crazy shot over it (to give it a deeper purple color and some metallic)... then removing the decals so the black metallic shows as the decals. Would this be extremely difficult to accomplish and be extremely high priced? Or is it something that is possible? How do you think it would look?

Can't wait to hear responses!!! (oh and the colors are not set... of course)

i like the idea, mine was kinda the same. I wanted the car black, and use the factory strpies as a guide for someone to airbrush the realistic flames using greys and black for that ghost look.

Before you make any decisions check out this site

you will find some wild and exotic color combos here!
Watch some of the videos for the ending appearance.
Oh, by the way i do use their products on a regular basis. As far as price, that all depends on what you want.

why not just buy the midnight metallic purple paint ALSA corporation sells and spray a few light coats of ALSA candy purple concentrate mixed in the clear over it to darken it even more? cost you around 3 hundred for 2 quarts of midnight purple 2 ozs of candy concentrate and a gallon of clear and catalyst you can see the colors at Alsa's webpage along with other custom colors

I have plenty of time to think of colors... but I was wondering about the striping ides... is it possible and how do you think it would look without actual decals?

heres my 65 cuda this is ALSA phoenix red with a mix of alsa midnight purple and phoenix red ghost flames over the basecoat and 4 coats of Alsa blood red candy concentrate mixed in the clear over it to give the flames depth with another 4 coats of clear shot over it wet blocked down to 1000 and buffed out.
anything is possible just be creative my cost in materials was around 350 bucks but then i do this and upholstery for a living what i would charge? 4500 on up candy is tough to shoot and do right without tiger stripes

Ghost stripes would be a nice option!

Would a black metallic under coat and a purple over coat work... or would it be a purple candy on top to make it look purple but still be able to see the black metallic. 4500 isn't bad... I was quoted 9,000 for just prime and basic paint here!!! AHHHHHH... Where are you located?

i would do it all different id spray the midnight purple basecoat then tape of the stripes and spray a light candy black over the purple and then spray candy purple over the entire car followed with a few coats of clear, color sanded and buffed out im located in iowa 4500 is a starting point to just paint a already prepared car with all the body work done

Is the $9000 quote for just prime and paint? Or is body work included?

yeah flame jobs become dated oh wait how long they been around? the hotrod motto is to each there own..... individualism and unique means everything unless we are restoring matching number cars. fortunately for most mopar owners we have awesome colors already to choose from with awesome striping kits

Custom paint always becomes dated. Like the Foose cars. I hate them all. Less is more.

I don't want to go EXTREME custom... I just want it slightly personalized with a touch of flare, but with the look of the original stripes. Flames are out for me... Loved them as a kid on the old 50's Hot Rods but not on this baby!!!
