1966 Formula S Option

Just because it has a tach, front sway bar & hd suspension does not mean it's a Formula S. My 66 Barracuda has all of those options, plus disk brakes, 273 Commando, console 4 speed, etc. It is not a Formula S. Those options could be purchased separately. My car came with all of that, but had a vinyl top. You couldn't get a vinyl top with the Formula S package because of the stripes. So the person who ordered the car originally wanted all of the go fast goodies, but wanted the look of a vinyl top, so they ordered it all separately.

You can decode the fender tag to figure out the options. That's what I did because the broadcast sheet was long gone.

Good point Lee, I would not normally think that someone would go through all the trouble to order everything seperate, but if you wanted an option not available in a package, obvoiusly it can be done. I'll bet yours is a pretty rare fish. I was also under the impression that you could not decode the car as a Formula S by the fender tag, as it will not denote the actual package, only identify certain options included in the package, such as the 4 barrel engine. My bad, I wish I could see your ride, I really dig these early A's and yours sounds right up my alley. As you can see in my avatar, I have the same thing as you minus the vinyl top. I did it my way and just didn't badge it as a Formula S, because it isn't one. I also haven't seen but a handful of broadcast sheets ever recovered from these early A's, it would be nice to find one in his car to solve this for him!! Happy motoring, Geof
