:cheers:mopar head, you have just stated what the answer was for the old school work around riddle! The old codger here told me they used to buy the 2 wire ALT if they couldn't get a 1 wire ALT. They would take out 1 of the insulators from 1 of the fields conectors and put the screw back in without the isolater washer, to ground the 2nd spare field!!!!!
That's why the butchers who owned "Bride of Frankenstein" ran the 2nd field wire pictured with white wire and ran it to the bracket screw of the regulator grounding it!!! That's why I couldn't beleive they had wired a field to ground and had started this thread! Been learning on the fly the past few days!
So that's why I figured we blew the regulator by applying batt power to system when alt was disconected and that's where the latest tsunami came from when all the problems started cascading, not the field wire grounding to the Alt housing!!!!!!
You Da Man!!!!!:cheers:Can we get an OH YEA!!!! Uh huh! LOL!!
