Computer Clean up (PC only)

Another factor that affects speed is heat. Make sure your CPU heatsink is clean as well as any cooling fans in the case. If your computer is on the floor, especially on carpet, it is a very expensive dust filter for your house. Use compressed air to blow out any dust inside your case and pay special attention the the CPU fan and heatsink. Don't forget to blow some air through the vents on the power supply too. Do not use any type of feather duster or brush to remove dust from the motherboard or other parts as you may create a static charge that will destroy your computer. If you do not have central air and the room temp is above 80 degrees, you can remove the side of the computer case and have a fan blow air across the case to help keep the computer cooler. A cool CPU runs much faster and your hard drive will last longer if it is not running at 120 degrees. A free program called Speedfan can help you monitor your temps and avoid overheating your computer.
