Tire Hit fender lip

Took car for a ride, first time out since 1989. Car was fine when I left the driveway. Drove 3-5 miles and when I returned the driver side tire moved up into the fender. Now I dont have the clearance I need to get the car on trailer for front end alignment. I am going to put the 14 inch rims back on but does anyone have ideas for the one side being 2 inches off than the other. Whole front end replaced and will look at it tomorrow had to walk away before I broke something else. Did I mention the tire hit the fender and folded it in. Not real happy.
 
215-65-15 is right at 26"

Reason I asked is because The same thing has happened to several member cars....

Everytime it happens the tire size is right at 26"

I would drop down to a 215-60-15 and check out the front suspension components/alignment.

Check the torsion bar mount at the cross member. It is wierd that the height changed on oned side like that.
 
Perhaps it is one of the issues mentioned above but also keep in mind that Ma Mopar never had a solid reputation for centering her rear axle assemblies in her vehicles. I have seen some that were an inch off to one side. Many people just go with what was recommended by others but the truth of the matter is that you have to measure both sides before trying to stuff in the largest wheel/tire combination back there. At that point (if there is a discrepancy), you can choose to correct it or go with the tire/wheel combo that will fit the tightest side. Good luck.

I think he is talking about the front.
 
I'm running a similar front tire size (225/50R16) and had to roll the inner lips of the fenders a bit to get them to clear the tires.
 
I put 195/65/15's on the front until I can find a set of series 40 rims 15x6 or 6.5 with 4 and 1/4 backspacing.
