I'm going to guess that it was 45 on one side of zero and 55 on the other side of zero, correct?
If that's the case, turn the wheel back so the wire points at 5* on the side of 0 that showed 55, then loosen the degree wheel and line it up at 0 with the wire. Or, just bend the wire so it points to the TDC (0) mark on the wheel. Then recheck it again to confirm it read the same on both side with your piston stop.
The 50* number is the amount of degrees you need to head back towards TDC point from either of your readings (45,55) to get to actual TDC.
