I am no expert, but I will give it a shot. So are you trying to degree the cam? If so you can do the intake centerline method that I have used before. I think that it is the easiest. Find TDC just like you listed above. You need to know what your intake centerline is on your cam card Example 106*. Mount your dial indicator on the #1 cylinder intake rocker directly above the valve spring with a solid lifter and the correct length pushrod or an adjustable pushrod. Turn the engine clockwise just until the spring reaches it's maximum lift and stop. Write down the degree on the wheel. Turn the engine counter clockwise until the spring reaches it's maximum lift again. Take the slack out of the timing chain and write down that number and divide by 2 and that is your intake centerline. Example 156*+56*=212/2=106 If you are off by a degree or two it really won't matter, but if it is more you will have make timing adjustments on the crank.
