I've tried all the "usual" places, i.e. JEGS, Paddock, JC Whitney, but cannot locate the in-line transmission filter for my 727. Did an internet search by part number (2400124) and one company came up; Tri Component in the Bronx. They unfortunately do not deal with individuals. I got the impression they supply other companies with stuff.

It was a very strange phone call and I don't know whether to be angry or just creeped out. The sales guy was pretty amused (almost condescendingly so) that I was rebuilding a car, then proceeded to ask if I was married and had kids.

At any rate, I don't look for a call back from him. Anyone know where I can get my hands on this filter?

Never heard of an inline filter on a trans?? Let us know what you find out.

I have seen, used an inline filter in the past. It was a universal filter that mounted in line and looked like a big fuel filter. I got it at the local auto parts store.

Try giving these guys a call and see if they can hook you up with one. We use then for the transmissions in our Ford Powerstrokes. They rebuild the tranny's Ford dealers sell. They always provide an inline filter with them stating the warranty is void without it installed. If necessary just tell them you need a replacement for your (gasp) powerstroke tranny.

Apparently they were used in '60-'62 automatics because there was only a strainer in the pan.

See page 32 of this document: http://www.plymouthbulletin.com/DVD-Plus/Issue294s.pdf

Unless you're using one of these trans then you don't need it. If you are, for some reason, then you can find generic inline trans filters from a number of sources (via a google search).

Oh, and stay away from the creeps.

Thanks everyone. I'll see what I can find with your suggestions. I do have to have one though because the transmission is a 62 and doesn't have internal filter, just a screen.

Check with your local Napa Auto Parts they should have a universal inline trans filter kit, or supplemental filter. It uses a high flow hydraulic filter. We used to put them on our Isuzu NPR tow trucks because the factory filters would let to much crap thru. Tractor Supply offers a hydraulic filter kit for the return side for $31.

The article I referenced mentioned a Fram # P-1651-PL as the correct replacement.

I would think anyone selling Fram would be able to order it for you.

Hi. NAPA does have a universal inline trans filter available( at least here in Canada). Part # 1-7825 for 5/16 line and # 1-8087 for 3/8 line. Hope this helps you out. Bobby

I have gone to Transmission Exchange. It is a chain rebuild shop. Try to go to your local tranny rebuild shop and they might have what you need.

I forgot that I had these. Magnetic/filter inline for trans or power steering. One is 5/16 the other 3/8.
