What's with auto body people? . . . .

Well Said!! It is an art form with hazards but it's rewards are worth it for the do it yourselfer....You can do this dood!!! as wildncrazy said buying up tools and equipment offer their own rewards and the knowledge that comes with them!! when I was younger I drooled over the car's of the day with their fancy paint job's and it is trully the finishing touch to any hot rod.If it dont come out perfect you are still keeping rust at bay so learn what you can and enjoy your success with it!You will be happy you chose base clear system,it is very forgiving and were all here to hopefully walk you thru it....when painting with the basecoat dont get in a hurry..don't try to make it shine, applie it in coats almost like candy apple, you will see that less is better,it covers better in light coat's don't put it on heavy it has an aggressive reduser that will eat into undercoats, each coat should look dry within five minutes.you can wait a while in between coats and tack cloth it down before the next coat,if you have a problem give it some time to dry and you can dry scuff the flaw back out and repaint that area without worry's....good luck to ya and keep us posted and ask all the question's you wan't
I think they're just being honest with you although laughing you out of there is uncalled for.

Basically you're bringing in a $500 car that needs 200+ hours work, with materials and parts you'll be into it for easily 30K+ and have a car worth 15.

Do the work yourself, many of us do with outstanding results, also gives you a better appreciation for what those body shop guys go through. :munky2:
