i want to get a set of headers for my car, but i was told that you build the motor, then get the headers according to the motor. but i was just going to buy a set of full length headers for my car and install them right before i go to the muffler shop to get exhaust redone (the right way..)

how hard will it be for me to get the headers on my car? (the car as seen in my sig :) ) i dont want to under plan for installation time on them.

i had planned on lifting the back end of my car by moving the axle perches and axle to the bottom side of the spring instead of the top. and i was going to put heavy duty shocks on the back end of my car.
that being mentioned because i guess it would give me a little more ground clearance for the tubes from my pipe organs...

Unless you're building a serious racecar, I would worry more about price and fit. I would also advise against moving your springs to the top of the axle tubes. There are better ways to raise the back of your car. Anyway most of your clearance problems will come from the front of the car.

regular 1-5/8" headers will be fine for anything up to around 450 horse. If you have some extra cash to spend get a hold of John Cambridge for some TTIs. They have a better fit and are stepped from 1-5/8 to 1-3/4"

why should i avoid moving my springs to the top of my axle? i had planned on getting some recurved springs later on, but the *** of my car sags anyway... and it gets on my nerves :?

and as for the TTIs, i dont have the money to spend on them... i would if i had it, but i dont, so i cant...

mounting the springs on top of the axle will raise the rear up a good 4".
You'll also have to cut the perches off and reweld them. It would be easier to get a hold of espo-springs and things and get a new set of springs fpr $150

i was wondering how much it would lift it :)
i wasnt decided on that anyway.
thanks.
now back to the headers...
i was going to get a set of hedman hedders, i had found them in a jegs catalog i had, but i cant find them online now.... ill have to keep looking.

i dont like Headmansmy mom has them on her 440,they bolw, look into Dynomax hearders, the ceramic coated i just bought are great and they look killer, and they preform great, the only bad part is that u hav to junk your power Steering box for a manual box

Dougs makes some nice headers and they definately aren't cheap. When I was looking for headers for my 65 Valiant they were one of two places with a listing. They wanted $960 plus shipping

holy ****!
well. i dont want to have to drop my PS... and i surely dont have $600-$900 to spend on a set.. fsck. ugh! i need a set of headers for my ride!! what about shorties? i hear theyre top end powerband option? can i get a set? i dont want to lose my PS box or have to do major mods to get it to work..

should i just get a weld-up set and spend a few days assembling them at the shop?

Too bad you didn't live closer, the 73 Duster I'm gonna be taking apart has a set of Hookers on it and it has alot of clearance around the p/s. I'm probably gonna just toss them.

i have a set of headmans on my sm blk dart and they seem to fit good.... they do hang low though and will easily be dented... i had hookers on the same car years ago and they were a real hard install... a real pain in the butt.... maybe it was just a bad set i don't know.... its probably woth saving the money and getting a set of good headders....

More than 4 inches, I lowered a Dakota that had a 4x4 axle on a 2wd truck. It lowered the rear bumper a good 12 inches. Just get a new set of springs. You can run cast iron manifolds and a good dual exhaust with nearly the same street performance and they dont leak. Headers are notorius for being thin and rusting out, leaking, hard to install, burn plug wires, and rattle.

Summit headers are only $80 and made by flowtech. I here they fit pretty well in A bodies.

do they clear everything alright? are they worth using? cuz that is quite a nice price for a set of headers...
then ill just need to get me some plug wire protectors so it doesnt burn my wires up..

oh, and if i got some headers, i think i would probably drop the $50 for a set of these...
