What timing would be best??

I'm about to go to the track with my Duster again and I think it needs a little more tuning in the timing area. My motor is by no means a crazy or hot motor, I'd like to know what kind of initial and advanced timing might work best for me?? Also any advice on MSD springs and counterweights would be great. Here's a quick run down of what I've got.
360 +.03, stock bottom end, .430/.450 cam, LD340 with a proform/holley 750dp, as cast X heads, adj rockers, MSD 6AL box and MSD dist. with no vacuum advance on it. the car also has headers, 3" and is an auto. I can give any other info needed. Thanks much, I've got a camaro and a subaru to run down.
 
my small blocks always liked about 35* total timing. i would set total around 35* and go +/- from there . as far as the springs and weights i would say any combo that brings total in at 2200-2400 rpm.

Our stroker always liked 35* total. Picked up about 10hp going to 36*, but lost about 20lbs as well.
 
Timing using total only is the ABSOLUTE WRONG method to use to get your car to run right if it has mechanical advance.

My similar set up 340 has about 16 initial and 36 total. Install the black adv bushing on the MSD dist and don't look back.
 
You can do alot better than 35 or 36 I have a well running street 340 that sees 50 at full advance no pinging . Mopar action has had good articles on this. There is absolutley a proper proceedure.

What spring would you reccomend I use with that?
 
what transmission do you have auto or manual?
what stall or rpm are you lanching at?
Are you trying to tune just for the track?
Street timing and drag timing are two different things(just my opinion)
If your car is at all setup for drag (big tires over 8 inches wide , steep gears 3.91 or higher , big converter 2600 rpm stall or higher ) when you launch it you are already above the advance recomended for the street and through the run you never drop back down below 3000 anyway so you dont need a advance if you have a msd dist. just lock the timing. sounds to me like you need 28-32 degrees Many people will disagree but just try it once it will cost you nothing. next time you go to the track start by setting it at 26 degrees and run it and advance it until it misses or pings dont forget to change jets in you carb other wise you are setting the timing to how your jetted just try it at 26-28 degrees with how its jetted now you will notice a difference at idle it will be alot crisper I didnt believe it until I tried it many different things work for many different people someone else said they run advance up to 50 degrees hey if it works for him but you never know what works for you untill you try it good luck
