What would you do.....?
OK I am jumping in...I have a 66 and I am facing a similar dillema. I do not have fender well headers, I dont have the stock manifolds, I am thrashing trying to come up with an inexpensive alternative and one does not seem to be surfacing. I talked with the Schumacher folks ( make the conversion motor mounts to seat a 340 in a 6 kframe) I talked with the DOUGs folks and you are right they are EXPENSIVE, but so are the TTi's....fact is they are all good alternatives, including the spitfire's( not as good) but all better than the stock cast....esp if you are pumpin up the HP....all that $$ to pump up the HP and then choke it with that cast LHS ribbon tube? not a good idea!
I am lookin into the spitfires....at least they are open and kinda cheap...I have not cut my wells and prefer not to, but if it comes down to it I will to get a decent exhaust workin.
