Anyone ever own a Golden Retriever???
I have a chance to get a Golden Retriever puppy. He is appox. 3months old and purbred with papers. Not sure if I can handle him. I have one dog [jack russell] and a cat. All the research I have done has said they are good family pets. Although they shed and love to chew on everything. I feel If I can get through the house training part it might be better. What do you think? Bad or good.
I have two both females, once they get past puppy age will not chew as much, definetly crate train them and they need to get out and run and love to run etc. Great kid/house/master dog. Once of the best pets and not a yapper no offense to the russell!
I love em all but they are very very smart and can be trained for hunting, securithy, blind eye, drugs you name it or just a 70-100 lb lap dog:)
No hip issues until 12-14+ they are a big dog, but breed correctly is not an issue and some breeders are hip display certifed too, both mine were and are AKC registered dogs etc. I should of, could have breed them both as they have great blood lines.
PS when they are pups until at least 1 1 1/2 they really love to chew, so get them big dones, firewood something and train them what not to chew etc.
They need a play mate as stated you or another dog etc. They like most dogs do better in pairs and mine are best buds and are 2 years apart now. One is 5 other is 7 and they stay act like puppies at time, chain saws guns fireworks dont scare them, they low to chase deer mountain lions the works.. Enjoy and best wishes!
